Penn Climate has partnered with the Goldsmith Sustainable Agriculture Fund, housed within the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy, where Vice Provost for Climate Sanya Carley serves as the Mark Alan Hughes Faculty Director, to establish “The Climate + Agriculture Exchange.” The Sustainable Agriculture Fund, led by Managing Director Thabo Lenneiye, is at the forefront of Penn’s thinking on the future of agriculture systems and how they intersect with energy. This new collaboration between Penn Climate and the Agriculture Fund brings together Penn expertise to jointly develop projects, convenings, and research at the nexus of climate and agriculture.
Agriculture is central to climate work, shaping land use, food supplies, water systems, and the stability of rural communities. This partnership positions Penn to leverage its policy prowess, sustainable agriculture knowledge, and convening power to impact real agricultural and climate challenges. Initial projects and events are in development and will be announced over the coming months. “The University is poised to make great contributions in this space,” says Carley, “which is critical to both providing climate solutions and supporting healthy and sustainable agricultural systems.”
