The MBA major in Business, Energy, Environment and Sustainability (BEES) is designed to provide in-depth foundations for those interested in the complex relationships between business and the natural environment, management of environmental risks, and the business and economics of energy. The major in Impact, Value and Sustainable Business (IVSB) is designed to provide in-depth foundations for those interested in how business activities affect natural, human, and social capital – and how these impacts influence risk, opportunity, and sustainable business performance. Graduates will be well equipped to shape strategy, innovation, valuations, investment flows, and policy.
A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM) offers a rigorous and immersive research experience designed to cultivate future leaders in academia, industry, and government. Administered by the Graduate Group in MEAM, the program provides a tailored curriculum that supports individual interests and promotes deep exploration of complex engineering challenges.
The Online Master of Science in Applied Geosciences in the College of Liberal and Professional Studies and Department of Earth and Environmental Science (EES) is a 12-cu, graduate program designed to prepare mid-career professionals (preferably a minimum of 3-years’ experience) in geoscience organizations (consulting, geotechnical, government, non-profit/NGO) for the next step in their careers.
This master’s program is an engineering degree with a strong technical focus, preparing students to become interdisciplinary leaders pioneering solutions in energy, climate, and sustainability. All students will complete one introductory course and participate in a hands-on, project-based component, which can take several forms. From four breadth categories—Environment and Climate Solutions, Clean Energy Technology, Society and Policy, and Economics and Innovation—students will select one concentration (three courses) and take one course in each of the remaining categories.
The MES/ML dual degree, offered jointly by Penn Carey Law and the School of Arts & Sciences, provides grounding in earth sciences, policy, and other relevant disciplines alongside focused study in environmental law, covering resource use, air and water pollution regulation, and energy policy.
The central purpose of this program is to bring together highly qualified individuals from France and the United States with a variety of master’s degrees in a unique and rigorous program that prepares students to manage complex international environmental challenges.
VIPER is a dual-degree program that positions students to make a significant impact in the development of sustainable energy science and technology while cultivating an interdisciplinary perspective in science and engineering and forming lasting connections with a community dedicated to solving the world’s energy challenges. Students pursue a Bachelor of Arts in the School of Arts and Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
The Earth and Environmental Science major provides graduates with a broad understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes that operate in and on the planet and how direct and indirect methods are used to examine, quantify and understand the structure, composition, and dynamics of the Earth’s atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and lithosphere.
Environmental Studies graduates understand how humans and ecosystems interact with the dynamic Earth, with grounding in the atmosphere and climate change, natural hazards, and the earth’s hydrologic and biogeochemical cycles, as well as environmental economics, sustainability, and policy.
