One Health is an empowering recognition that human health is intimately entwined with
animal, plant, and environmental health, as well as a problem-solving framework that drives
collaborative approaches to address local and global health challenges (so-called “wicked problems”), such as emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, food insecurity, air and water pollution, health disparities, and the multiple effects of climate change. Beyond addressing these threats, our training also prioritizes identifying ‘One Health services’—the tangible contributions that healthy integrated ecosystems and health systems provide to sustain and enhance human and animal well-being.
A new One Health Certificate Program, launching Fall 2026, is open to all Penn graduate a professional students, engaging them in a customizable, four course, collaborative
educational experience that can be applied to address complex problems that threaten
human, animal, and environmental health. One Health in Action faculty members will work
with each student to develop a curricular plan that enhances skills needed to collaborate
across different disciplines and synergizes with the student’s main degree program interests
and requirements. Below is a schematic showing the key features of the certificate program
Please contact us at onehealthnexus@vet.upenn.edu if you are interested in enrolling. We will
hold an information session about the program in late spring and mid-summer.
